Contact - Gay pride in New York
March 12, 2009 I took this picture at Gay Pride in New York City in 2005. After watching the parade on 5th Avenue, I walked down to Greenwich Village with my friend the photographer Jeremy Patlen and his partner. We stopped at the White Horse Tavern for drinks. From our table on the sidewalk, we watched the continuing after-parade of drag queens, police officers and cast members of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
Next to our table, two men were standing and chatting. At one point one of them grabbed the other by the arm to make a point. When I looked at the picture afterward, it struck me that he was probably trying to make two points with one gesture.
The photograph Contact is currently on display at Ça décoiffe, a barber shop in Montreal. Barber Daniel Haché organizes monthly group exhibitions at his haircutting salon on Papineau Avenue. The openings are always on the night of the full moon.
The theme of the current show is Textile. It's on from March 10 to April 6, 2009.
Ça décoiffe is located at 4526 Papineau Avenue (map) next to La Tulipe.
The salon is open Thursday (9:00-6:00), Friday (12:00-8:00), Saturday (9:00-4:00), Sunday (10:00-5:00) and Monday (9:00-6:00).
