Cotswolds - Architecture abstracts
April 22, 2009
I recently spent a week visiting friends at their home in Oxford, England . One day we drove to Broadway, a historic town in the Cotswolds, to visit the Gordon Russell Museum. Russell was an English furniture designer in the mid-20th century. His designs were influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement. Russell's furniture was distinguished by its modern lines and use of natural materials. Russell is perhaps best known for the Utility furniture he designed during World War II. Today the legacy of Gordon Russell is maintained by Hands Furniture of High Wycombe, England.
While we were in Broadway, I strolled on the grounds of the Lygon Arms Hotel, which was once owned by Gordon Russell's father. During my walk I had the chance to chat with Ray Leigh, an associate of Gordon Russell's and now the chairman of the Gordon Russell Trust.
The photographs in this series show architectural details of one of the smaller buidlings on the grounds of the Lygon Arms Hotel.
