Hiroshima overexposed 1
During a trip to Hiroshima, which was my home at one time, I walked from Hijiyama Park to the Aioi Bridge, a distance of about 2 km. The neighborhoods I walked through were destroyed by the atomic bomb that exploded over the city on August 6, 1945. Thousands of people died at the moment of the explosion, and many thousands died afterwards from radiation exposure. As I walked from Hijiyama Park to the Aioi Bridge, which was the target of the bomb, I photographed the people I passed in the street. I overexposed each image to show what people in modern-day Hiroshima might look like at the precise moment of an atomic flash. The nuclear threat is still with us
